Tandweni Villa offers an exclusive, elegant and tasteful bush experience in the heart of the Pongola Biosphere Reserve.
The game viewing in the Reserve offers sightings of four out of the Big Five. We are often spoilt with sightings of the elephant swimming and playing in the dam. We have plenty of aardvark activity at night – they love scratching and digging up our airfield for ants.
The Mkuze area is situated in Northern Zululand which is world renowned for its birding opportunities. Bush walks are a must for birders – with over 400 bird species in the area, it’s every birder’s dream.

Tandweni is a privately owned, modern villa in a 10000ha game park bordering Lake Jozini. With your own private game drive vehicle, driven by Jabulani, you are able to traverse a large game area, filled with a variety of game species, and are often lucky enough to view our elephants swimming in the dam.
Sundowners down by the dam are very popular – it’s the best setting to end your day with the incredible backdrop of the Lebombo mountains.
For birders, there is no better place! Being part of the Pongola birding route, the dam areas offer some interesting finds for the avid twitcher, including ink-backed Pelican, Comb Duck, Lesser Moorhen, Painted Snipe, Caspian Tern, Black Coucal and Osprey.
Game walks are also possible within the reserve.
Jozini Dam is the third largest dam within South Africa, and the southernmost home of the Tiger Fish. The dam is approximately 30km and 5km wide, covering some 16000ha. Catfish and Tilapia are some of the other fish that can be found in the dam.
We have our own private boat, with a skipper, available for use for fishing trips, or sundowner trips on the dam.
