Tiger Fishing with Jabulani
The jewel in Tandweni Villa’s crown is its abundant tiger fishing, offering half- and full-day fishing excursions on a catch and release basis. The guide Jabulani has over 20 years’ experience fishing on Jozini Dam and knows all the prime spots to cast off. Summer is the best season to catch these large game fish; though there are small tigers to be caught year round. The current record stands at 8.3kg – could you beat this?
Boat Cruise
Game viewing and bird watching from the water is an unforgettable experience, with the river bank home to many species. Watch the elephant come down to the water’s edge and listen to the grey go-away bird calling from the Acacia tree. The boat can comfortably seat a maximum of 10 adults per trip.
Night Drive with Sundowners
Watch the sun set on an evening game drive and keep your eyes peeled for nocturnal animals. Bonus points if you spot the elusive aardvark! Enjoy a sundowner surrounded by nature at the lookout point with panoramic views over Jozini dam and the Lebombo mountain range beyond.
Guided Bush Walks
Get up close to nature and discover the diverse fauna and flora of Pongola Game Reserve on a guided bush walk with Tandweni Villa’s experienced guides. This three-kilometre trail takes approximately two hours and ends at the viewpoint overlooking the villa. Your guide Sibusiso will point out the magnificent birdlife and the role indigenous fauna and wildlife play in local Zulu culture. Enjoy a picnic and refreshments at the lookout.
Game Drives
Our expert guides will take you on an open safari vehicle to discover wildlife in the Big 4 Pongola Game Reserve, including rhino, leopard, aardvark, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, impala, buffalo, hyena and elephant. It is also a birding hotspot with over 350 recorded bird species. Soak up the unspoiled beauty that this natural terrain has to offer as you break for refreshments in the middle of the bushveld.
Sundowner Fishing
Enjoy a picturesque African sunset while baiting up the rods and casting a line from the banks of the great Jozini Dam. This family activity is a special experience.
Bush Breakfast
A highlight of any stay at Tandweni Villa, our signature bush breakfast offers alfresco dining in the most unique African setting. Enjoy a beautifully prepared breakfast on the banks of Jozini Dam, while the hippos wallow in the shallows and the fish eagle calls out from above.
Children’s Activities
Tandweni Villa’s youngest guests will enjoy than extra special safari adventure, with activities aimed at inspiring a lifelong love of the bush. Junior rangers will enjoy mini guided bush walks, barbel fishing using worms as magic bait, mini game drives on the airfield, bush scavenger hunts and star gazing. There is a large jungle gym and sandpit with hidden gems for them to fill their pockets with and take home. For the really brave, there is the option to camp out on the jungle gym roof. A giant slip and slide on the lawn is an added bonus!
Sleeping under the Stars
A highlight of any visit to Tandweni Villa, this dreamy experience allows you to reconnect with nature in a private open-air treehouse decked out with mosquito nets and crisp white linen. Drift off to sleep beneath an African sky while being serenaded by the sounds of wildlife and wake up to the most spectacular view overlooking the watering hole. Sleeps two.
